Theratrak & A.T. Still University: Researching the Future of Occupational Therapy

The Theratrak team are excited to announce our next innovative research partnership with A.T. Still University (ATSU), a leader in healthcare sciences.

This research collaboration with ATSU is set to explore innovative approaches in occupational therapy, leveraging Theratrak's digital platform to enhance therapy outcomes and service delivery.

A.T. Still University: A Legacy of Healthcare Innovation

A.T. Still University of Health Sciences, founded in 1892 by Andrew Taylor Still, DO, is the founding institution of osteopathic healthcare. With campuses in Mesa, Arizona; Santa Maria, California; and Kirksville, Missouri, ATSU spans over 200 acres and includes seven prestigious schools.

ATSU's mission is to prepare highly competent professionals dedicated to improving community health, embracing diversity, and addressing the needs of underserved populations. The university is renowned for its commitment to whole-person healthcare, serving underserved communities, and integrating osteopathic principles with modern science.

With more than 1,300 employees and an annual enrolment of over 3,900 students from 20 countries, ATSU is a beacon of excellence in healthcare education and research.

Theratrak is grateful that another world-leading education and research institution is partnering with us to discover how technology can impact therapy outcomes.

Theratrak x ATSU Research Partnership Projects

Our collaboration with ATSU is a testament to our shared vision of advancing occupational therapy through research and digital innovation.

The Theratrak and ATSU research partnership will focus on two key research projects:

  • Longitudinal Study at a Pro Bono Clinic:

    • This 12-month study will utilise Theratrak in a pro-bono clinic setting, offering a unique opportunity to assess the platform's impact on therapy outcomes in real-world conditions.

  • Capstone Project:

    • Aimed at delving deeper into the capabilities of Theratrak, this project will explore its potential to revolutionise therapy practices and outcomes, providing a deeper understanding of how digital tools can enhance the field of occupational therapy.

Researchers Leading the Way for OT Innovation

There are two key academics and healthcare professionals leading this initiative at ATSU: Sue Dahl-Popolizio and Abbey Glenn

Sue Dahl-Popolizio, Director of Research and Associate Professor at ATSU's Occupational Therapy Program, will lead this research initiative. With over 25 years of experience as a licensed occupational therapist and a board-certified hand therapist, Sue's expertise is invaluable to this partnership.

Sue’s previous research has focused on enhancing the role of occupational therapy within primary care settings, aiming to improve interprofessional collaboration and patient outcomes. Sue's innovative approach and dedication to advancing occupational therapy align perfectly with the goals of Theratrak to co-design digital tools that can change lives.

The other person driving this research forward is Abbey Glenn, OTD, OTR/L, CBIS, Assistant Professor and Doctoral Capstone Coordinator at ATSU. With a background in occupational therapy focused on neurological injuries and acute care, Abbey's transition from clinical practice to academia culminated in her OTD from Boston University.

At ATSU, Abbey supports doctoral students to apply their knowledge during capstone projects as well as supporting innovative research projects like the longitudinal pro-bono study.

In collaboration, Abbey's and Sue’s efforts have set the stage for this significant research into how technology can transform therapy practices.

Looking Ahead: Therapy Insights

By combining the strengths of Theratrak's digital platform with ATSU's academic and research excellence, we’re anticipating insights from this research that will significantly advance the practice and delivery of occupational therapy services.

Stay tuned for updates on this exciting collaboration!
